So. I've noticed a trend lately in "dark books" not really being all that dark. I'm not liking it. I get myself all hyped up for a super dark story, and then it veers off and takes a dark book and makes it a little lighter to make it easier to swallow. If you are going, go all the way. That said. Tears of Tess was a really good story for what it was, but what it wasn't was a super dark book. More gray rather than black. It was good, it was worth the read, I stayed glued to my iPad while I was finishing it. But that didn't mean that I wasn't disappointed in it. Maybe I'm just getting my hopes up all to much for another great antihero. Still, 3.5 stars/4 stars.
